MORE PICTURES FROM ENSENADA CANDALERO

Here are some pictures of the interesting geology and plants we found in our hikes at Ensenada El Candalero.

There a lot of kayakers based in El Candalero. They all seem to come back in the evening.

While trying to spear a fish for dinner I thought I heard voices while I was floating on the surface trying to watch the fish to see if they would come out from their cave. I keep my head under water and breath thru the snorkel for five or ten minutes at a time and don't watch the surface at all. I was only about 40' from the rock cliffs. I raised my head above water and found that I was surrounded by 10 tandem kayakers all wondering what I was doing? Well duh, see the spear, see the mask, see the fins, now guess!

The picture to the right is looking at Mirador from the top of one of the hills to the NE of the bay. You can see one of the kayaker camps. Behind the rocks that the tents are nest to is another camp that is about the same sixe or maybe a little larger.

We hiked up a canyon to a 100' dry waterfall. At the base there was a small spring and beautiful vegetation. The boulders were huge and fun to climb on.

There are a lot of very strange rocks on the island!

The view above is looking out of the canyon toward the southwest. That is Mirador anchored on the left side of the picture. The big rock in the center of the picture must be "El Candalero" but the charts show it as Roca Monumento.

The sandstone cliffs had many interesting sculptures in them. We think these were natural.

We climbed about 200' above the canyon floor to watch the sunset.
