Mirador was purchased by an experienced sailor and boat owner in early May 2024. He moved her to the upper Chesapeake Bay region and will spend a year or so refitting her.
We are selling our 1994 Caliber 40 cutter because my wife and I have both suffered debilitating orthopedic trauma in the last few years and neither of us can move about a sailboat underway, so it is time to sell our beloved Mirador. She is at our home dock in Punta Gorda, SW Florida about 90-miles south of Tampa.
Mirador needs a great deal of re-conditioning and updating. All the equipment onboard works well and is fully functional. But, it is all 15 to 20-years old and well used. The Yanmar 4JH2E 47HP diesel has only 2,900 hours on it and runs perfectly with no oil burning or leaking. The 18” Maxprop was brought back to new condition by PYI in November 2023 and now works perfectly. A new bottom was applied in late December 2023.
We know a buyer will want to replace and upgrade much of the equipment and thus are offering Mirador for sale far below market value for a Caliber 40. We are selling the boat at its current location and in the condition it is presently.
We had a very through pre-purchase survey and valuation done early in January 2024. The surveyor identified many issues with out of date equipment but the hull is sound with no blisters or delaminations. The standing rigging and chain plates are in good condition. Essential items such as tankage, thru hulls, rudder stock, and lifelines are also in good condition.
We purchased Mirador new in early 1995. She was built in Clearwater, Florida in the fall of 1994 and is the last of the non-LRC Caliber 40s. We equipped her with every known creature comfort, performance, and safety feature before taking off on a 17-year cruising adventure in August 2000.
Just a few of the items in the extraordinary list are: 8-custom sails, Spectra watermaker, ICOM Ham radio, 4-anchors, custom anchor locker and anchor handling gear, custom tracks for staysails, Autohelm SPX-30 /p-70 autopilot, Sailormat windvane, 500 watts of solar power, custom Atlantic towers arch, 135 gallons of diesel tankage, custom workshop with metal top work surface. All standing rigging was replaced in 2017.
